FBI announces plans to begin releasing 2,500 documents on Bola Tinubu starting in October


The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will begin collecting about 2,500 documents related to President Bola Tinubu into its database, Peoples Gazette reported.

US law enforcement said it will begin releasing the documents starting in October, at a rate of 500 pages per month, according to new court filings obtained by The Gazette.

“The FBI has identified a total of approximately 2,500 pages that potentially satisfy FOIA requests 1553430-00 and 1587544-000,” the US agency said in a status report filed September 11 in District Court. United States for the District of Columbia in Washington. D.C. “The FBI is planning to process 500 pages per month, with the first release expected by the end of October 2023.”

The surprise move follows the FBI's initial reluctance to turn over documents in response to a Freedom of Information request first filed in 2022. 

Aaron Greenspan, who runs PlainSite, a website promoting anti-corruption and transparency in public service, filed a complaint. asked in collaboration with journalist David Hundeyin. 

The Gazette followed the request for months and made suggestions to ensure success after the FBI's initial apology. 

The revelation is expected to clear up lingering questions regarding when Mr. Tinubu entered the United States, under what name he entered, and any activities he has engaged in since then. 

Mr. Tinubu has lived for decades in the United States, where he first moved in the 1970s. Further details about the seizure of $460,000 for drug smuggling in Chicago in the 1990s are also expected will appear among the documents to be published.

The Nigerian president's background remains a mystery to most people as questions regarding his real parents and his upbringing remain unanswered.
