Two men allegedly rape two sisters in Jos

Two suspects, 28-year-old Shuaibu Samaila, and Bashiru Mohammed, 26, have been remanded by a Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, for alleged rape of two sisters.
Their charges were criminal conspiracy and rape.
Presiding judge, Yahaya Mohammed, turned down their bail application.
The police prosecutor, D. Francis, had earlier told the court that the case was reported by one Bulus Badung, of Jos South Local Government, on March 29 at the Kaduna Vom Police Division.
The prosecutor said that the case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Jos.
He explained further that the complainant told the police that on March 26, his two daughters were attacked by the accused persons in a nearby bush.
Francis said that the complainant told the police that the two accused persons overpowered the girls, tied their hands with a rope and had unlawful carnal knowledge of them without their consent.
The prosecutor further said that during police investigation, the accused persons admitted carrying out the offences and had signed a statement to that effect.
He said the offences were against sections 97 and 283 the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The judge adjourned the case till Aug. 31, for further hearing.
