It could be recalled that the federal government yesterday, announced the withdrawal of Maimuna Aliyu and Sa’ad Alanamu from the ICPC following public outcry over their integrity.
However, in his reaction, Omokri said that the failure to investigate the antecedents of the nominees before appointing them to the sensitive positions of ICPC commissioners showed gross incompetence on the part of the presidency.
According to him, the same lack of nominee profiling before appointing the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, caused a stalemate between the Senate and the Presidency.
He said: “Wouldn’t it have been more prudent to have screened them for these ‘ongoing investigation issues’ before nominating them in the first place?
“This act, while spinned to look like transparency, is actually evidence of incompetence; the same type of incompetence that led to the Department of State Security indicting the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before the Senate.”
